Owner and Co-Founder
Karen is a seasoned Human Resource, talent management, career, and learning development professional with +14 years of experience. Originally from the UK, she is a driven leader and change agent, with a passion for empowering individuals, communities, and organizations through exceptional development opportunities.
Karen has had a unique career path, and is an example of how you can leverage skills and strengths to gain a career in a field you never thought you would explore. Karen graduated from the University of Toronto with an Honours Bachelor of Arts (double major in History and Political Science, and a minor in English.) When she graduated she wasn’t sure what to do. She took a couple of entry level jobs that she did NOT like; today they would be recognized as toxic work environments. She decided to return back to the UK to complete a teaching degree. Karen returned to Canada in late 2007, and while waiting for her credentials to transfer, took a temporary contract job at a Bank. It is important to note that one thing Karen said she would NEVER do was work at a Bank! That temporary opportunity turned into a 12 ½ year career. Learning and Development, Leadership Planning and Talent Management became Karen’s purpose. This led to Karen’s personal mantra: NEVER say NEVER, as doing so can close doors that should remain wide open.
It is due to her unique path that Karen feels a deep connection with helping individuals and teams on their career journey. She understands from personal experience that there are many different paths you can take to achieve success. Getting there is about agility, curiosity and taking some risk.
During Karen’s time in HR she has coached 200+ executives and 325+ high potentials, run 180+ talent roundtable discussions, assisted people in outplacement services, debriefed 360 surveys, ran personal branding workshops, networking workshops, team effectiveness workshops, and was responsible for 250+ C-Suit executive succession plans. These experiences ignited Karen’s purpose; helping people navigate their careers and helping leaders and organizations keep their employees engaged, through authenticity and trust. In order to make an impact, Karen wanted to start her own practice where this would be her focus everyday!
On a personal note, Karen is a mother of two boys (and a Portuguese water dog), so has navigated returning to work and adjusting to being on maternity leave. Karen is passionate about helping Women through this transition and offering support while they are on leave and reflecting on their careers. Karen and her husband take community engagement seriously, and started KidsCan Charity in 2016. KidsCan empowers kids to realize their full potential by funding enriching activities. Karen is a member of Ontario Association of Career Management and a member of Career Professionals of Canada, is a certified secondary school teacher, adult facilitator, and Birkman coaching certified.
